1 min read

North Korea will start accepting foreign tourists again in December, after approximately 5 years.

The country had closed its borders to foreign tourists in January 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to a statement from KTG, a China-based company that organizes tours to North Korea, tourists will be able to visit Samjiyon, a city with the volcanic Paektu Mountain, starting this winter season.

The statement said, "We have only been informed about Samjiyon for now, but we believe that Pyongyang and other regions will also be opened to tourists." Another China-based company, Koryo Tours, which brings foreign tourists to North Korea, said, "Koryo Tours has been waiting for more than 4 years to make this announcement and is excited about North Korea reopening to tourism."
