Collaboration between Wyndham and
long-term franchise partner expands with new exclusive development agreement.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world's largest
franchised hotel company with approximately 9,300 hotels and 25 global brands
worldwide, has signed an exclusive development agreement with Soliteight Hotel
Projects SA to bring the Super 8® by Wyndham brand to the Iberian peninsula.
Under the agreement, hotel development and investment company Soliteight, an
existing franchise partner of Wyndham, will develop and open 40 Super 8 hotels
in Spain and Portugal over the next 10 years.
The Super 8 brand in the economy segment is globally
recognized for its hospitality, reliable quality and affordable prices and will
now offer budget-friendly accommodation options in Spain and Portugal. As the
tourism industry in the two countries is growing at record levels, demand for
reliable, high-quality accommodations in the economy segment is on the rise.
Wyndham currently has 14 Super 8 hotels across the EMEA region, including those
in Germany, the UK and Saudi Arabia.
The first of the hotels under the new agreement will
open in Leiria, Portugal, in the fourth quarter of 2027. Subsequent openings
are expected in tier one and tier two cities, airports, popular shopping
centers and smaller towns along major transportation routes. A significant number
of the hotels being developed will be new construction projects with smart
modular design, emphasizing efficiency and sustainability.
"By bringing our Super 8 brand to Spain and
Portugal, we are taking a strategic step towards making quality and affordable
travel options more accessible," said Dimitris Manikis, President EMEA,
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. There is a growing demand for reliable and
budget-friendly accommodation options in Southern Europe and our partnership
with Soliteight meets this demand. By bringing a trusted brand to key
destinations, we ensure that travelers get value for money without sacrificing
quality. We look forward to bringing Super 8's affordable prices, modern
amenities and sustainability to these vibrant markets."
Meeting the needs of the market
While the number of tourists visiting Spain in 2024
hit a record high of 94 million, Portugal's tourism sector also recorded strong
growth. In Spain, whose economy grew by 3.2% in the same year, demand for
domestic tourism and business travel is also increasing, especially in
secondary and emerging cities. Super 8 by Wyndham aims to fill the market gap
between basic economy and increasingly costly mid-range hotels with reliable,
high-quality and affordable accommodation.
"Branded hotels in the economy segment in Spain
and Portugal are lagging behind other European markets," said Rui
Alpalhão, CEO of Soliteight. "Despite a 142% increase in revenue per room
since 2019, there is a 10% gap in budget brand penetration. We are delighted
with this partnership to develop Super 8 exclusively in the Iberian peninsula,
fulfilling the requirement to consistently offer comfort and value for money to
both domestic and international visitors."
