Tourism boycott: Travel from Europe to the US declines

Flights from Western Europe to the US fell
by 17 percent in March, part of a global negative travel trend towards the US.
This raises the question of whether there is a tourism boycott.
International arrivals to the United States (US) have
been falling, with the largest declines reported among Western European,
Central American and Caribbean travelers, Euronews reported. The total number
of global visitors arriving in the US by air, sea and land decreased by 3.3
percent in 2025 compared to 2024. March was particularly unfavorable, with a
drop of 11.6 percent compared to the same month last year.
According to Stefan Gössling, professor at the School
of Business and Economics at Linnaeus University in Sweden, concerns about
stricter immigration controls as well as new trade policies implemented by the
Donald Trump administration may be scaring off some would-be tourists.
"There is considerable evidence that the new government is scrutinizing
immigrants, foreign students, even Green Card holders. Unwanted people are
being deported. This presents the US in a new light that is no longer
hospitable and discourages tourism."
