Kim Jong-un focused on tourism: Opens 20,000-seat tourism complex

The 20 thousand-person tourism complex built on the coast of North Korea's Kalma Peninsula was inaugurated with a ceremony attended by the country's leader Kim Jong-un.

North Korea, which is often on the agenda with its military cooperation with Russia, has made a remarkable tourism move this time. According to the statement made by the North Korean administration, the 20 thousand-person tourism complex built on the shore of the Kalma Peninsula in the city of Wonsan was opened with a ceremony attended by the country's leader Kim Jong-un. Speaking at the ceremony attended by Russian Ambassador to North Korea Alexander Matsegora and embassy officials as special guests, Kim said that the new complex will play a leading role in building the country's tourism culture. Addressing the employees of the giant tourism complex, Kim said, "All units responsible for the operation should do their best to provide a pleasant and satisfying vacation for the guests coming to this facility." Emphasizing that the tourism sector is of great importance as a driving force contributing to economic growth, Kim said, "This newly built complex will contribute to our country becoming a world-class tourism and cultural center and will pave the way for similar facilities to be built in different parts of the country." Kim emphasized that it is important to further develop the country's tourism.

North Korean Prime Minister Pak Thae-Song stated that the coastline on the Kalma Peninsula has gained a modern and elegant appearance with the newly built tourism complex and said, “This is a groundbreaking change that only the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) can realize.” Stating that this project is an indicator of North Korea's people-oriented policies, Pak thanked Kim for leading the project. It was reported that the inaugurated tourism complex will start serving domestic tourists from July 1.
