Bergamo Airport in Italy was temporarily closed after a person died on the runway.

At Bergamo Airport in Italy, a person, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, ran on the runway and approached the engine of an airplane and then was pulled into the engine. The incident reportedly occurred as the plane was maneuvering out of the parking area to prepare for takeoff.

Flight operations were suspended between 10.20 and 12.00 local time due to ‘a problem on the taxiway’, the airport said in a statement.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
