The cyberattack targeting Collins
Aerospace, a company providing check-in and baggage systems services to
airports across Europe, disrupted operations at many major airports, including
London's Heathrow, the continent's busiest airport, causing flight delays and
cancellations.
The cyberattack on Collins Aerospace, which provides
software services to many airlines at airports around the world, disrupted air
traffic. A statement from Heathrow Airport in London, the capital of the United
Kingdom, said there was a technical problem and that flights from the airport
were experiencing delays. A statement from Brussels Airport in Belgium also
indicated that the cyberattack had rendered automatic systems inoperable, allowing
only manual check-in and boarding procedures. The statement said, "This
situation is significantly affecting the flight schedule and will unfortunately
lead to delays and cancellations. The service provider is actively working on
this issue and is trying to resolve it as soon as possible.“ A statement from
Berlin Airport said, ”Due to a technical problem with the system provider,
there are longer waiting times for check-in procedures. We are working on a
quick solution." Passengers with flights today are advised to confirm
their flights with the airline before heading to the airport.
In a statement from RTX, the owner of Collins
Aerospace, it was noted that a cyberattack-related outage had been detected in
systems at some airports and that efforts were underway to resolve the issue as
quickly as possible.
