White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt shared on her social media account, “The US is freezing all visa procedures for 75 countries, including Somalia, Russia, and Iran,” quoting the news published on the subject. The news report stated that the U.S. State Department would indefinitely suspend all visa procedures for a total of 75 countries, including Somalia, Russia, Afghanistan, Brazil, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Nigeria, Thailand, and Yemen.

It was stated that the suspension would begin on January 21, and U.S. State Department Spokesperson Tommy Piggott said in a statement, "The State Department will use its long-standing authority to deem potential immigrants who would become a public charge in the United States and abuse the generosity of the American people as inadmissible. The State Department will suspend immigration applications from these 75 countries while it reassesses immigration procedures to prevent foreign nationals from entering the country to receive social and public assistance."
