Third train accident in Spain in one week

A commuter train collided with a construction
crane near the city of Cartagena in southeastern Spain. This accident was the
third train accident in the country in the last week.
In the Alumbres area near the city of Cartagena,
located in the Murcia region in southeastern Spain, a commuter train traveling
from Cartagena to Los Nietos collided with a crane working on the tracks.
Authorities stated that the collision shattered the train's windows but did not
derail the carriages. According to initial reports, six passengers were
slightly injured in the accident.
In Spain, 45 people lost their lives when two
high-speed trains collided near the city of Cordoba on Sunday, January 18, and
on Tuesday, January 20, a train derailed near Barcelona, killing the driver.
Following the accidents, the main train drivers' union
SEMAF announced that they had decided to hold a three-day strike starting on
February 9.
