Sangadzi Tarbayev, Chairman of the State Duma’s Tourism Committee, has proposed the idea of imposing a “special tax”—similar to a departure fee—on Russian citizens leaving the country.

According to a report on Türkrus.ru, Sangadzi Tarbayev stated in a post on his Telegram channel that supporting domestic tourism is particularly important today.

Tarbayev noted that Russian tourists spent approximately 700 billion rubles on overseas vacations in 2024 alone, adding that a significant portion of this money could remain within the country.

According to the lawmaker, this revenue could contribute to the development of domestic tourism, the creation of new job opportunities, and increased budget revenues. He also noted that such a tax could help establish a compensation fund for emergencies.
