Lufthansa expands fare portfolio: More options on short & medium haul routes

New Economy Basic entry-level fare complements existing offerings. Gradual rollout at Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Lufthansa City Airlines, and Air Dolomiti.

Effective April 28, the Lufthansa Group is expanding its fare portfolio for short- and medium-haul flights with a new entry-level fare for travel starting May 19: The Economy Basic fare will be introduced gradually on select routes. It complements the existing offering and can be booked with the airlines of the Lufthansa Group—Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Lufthansa City Airlines, and Air Dolomiti — via digital sales channels such as the airlines’ websites and NDC channels.

The new Basic fare offers day travelers, for example, an additional option at an attractive entry-level price. It includes one personal item, such as a laptop bag or a small backpack. Those who wish to bring more luggage can flexibly add carry-on or checked baggage as an add-on service within this particularly affordable fare or choose a fare option with expanded baggage allowances. The enhanced fare structure thus enables a clear, transparent selection tailored to individual needs. The existing Light fare is also being enhanced: In the future, travelers will benefit from the option to rebook their reservation for a fee — a boost in flexibility for greater planning security.

In total, travelers will have four clearly differentiated fare options in Economy Class and three in Business Class.
