Osaka, one of Japan's largest cities, has banned smoking in public spaces.

Osaka, one of Japan's largest cities, has banned smoking in public spaces across the city as it prepares to host the 2025 World Expo. Effective January 27, the ban prohibits smoking and vaping on roads, parks, squares and other public spaces. Those who do not comply with the rules will be fined 1000 yen. “By expanding smoke-free areas across the city, we aim to improve safety, cleanliness and strengthen Osaka's image as an international tourism destination,” Osaka Municipality said in a statement.
