MSC Group’s Cruise Division held the official groundbreaking ceremony for Sandy Cay, its new exclusive island destination in the Bahamas. Scheduled to open in 2028, the project represents a significant milestone in the company’s destination development strategy and once again demonstrates its long-term investment in and commitment to the Bahamas.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by executives from MSC Group’s Cruise Division, representatives of the Bahamian government, and stakeholders contributing to the project. Pierfrancesco Vago, CEO of MSC Group’s Cruise Division, and Philip Davis, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, also attended the ceremony.

Located right next to MSC’s private island in the Bahamas, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Sandy Cay was first announced in April 2026. Designed to complement Ocean Cay by offering a more boutique, exclusive, and upscale island experience, the destination will serve only guests of MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys.

Developed with an approach in harmony with nature, Sandy Cay is centered around the themes of healthy living, relaxation, and connecting with the natural environment. This destination, distinguished by its pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and serene atmosphere, will offer guests the opportunity to discover the Bahamas’ unique natural beauty while continuing Ocean Cay’s commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation.

Sandy Cay will feature exclusive concepts focused on special culinary experiences, relaxation areas, personalized luxury services, and exceptional guest experiences.

The MSC Group’s Cruise Division aims to offer guests at Sandy Cay not just a new destination, but an unforgettable experience that reflects the nature, culture, and spirit of the Bahamas.

A New Era Begins at Ocean Cay

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, which has become one of the Caribbean’s most captivating destinations, will continue to evolve with new investments.

Upcoming innovations scheduled to launch in the near future include new dining and beverage areas, beach concepts tailored for families and adults, expanded relaxation zones, and interactive activities that allow guests to experience marine conservation efforts up close.

These investments support the MSC Group’s vision of creating destinations that continuously evolve to meet guest expectations without compromising its commitment to protecting the natural environment.

For guests of MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, Ocean Cay and Sandy Cay will together take the exclusive island experience in the Caribbean to a whole new level. Whether guests are seeking a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature, family-oriented activities, or top-tier luxury and exclusive experiences, both destinations will offer rich and unforgettable options with their distinct characters.

Ocean Cay and Sandy Cay will stand among the newest and most compelling examples of the MSC Group’s vision to integrate the at-sea travel experience with unique onshore moments.
