Hilton and Scandic Hotels Group have signed a multi-year hotel development agreement covering Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland. The first hotel announced under the agreement will be a 284-room Hilton Hotels & Resorts property located in the Scanport area adjacent to Copenhagen Airport. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2029. Hilton and Scandic also plan to offer new benefits to Hilton Honors and Scandic Friends members. Details will be shared at a later date.
Hilton has signed a strategic agreement with Scandic Hotels Group, Northern Europe’s largest hotel operator, to accelerate the growth of Hilton brands in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland.
Under the multi-year agreement, the two companies will jointly evaluate new hotel development opportunities across the four countries. The collaboration will combine Hilton’s globally recognized brands and global commercial reach with Scandic’s extensive hotel network, operational expertise, and deep-rooted presence in the region. The agreement will focus on specific hotel development opportunities in Northern Europe and will not involve the conversion of a significant portion of Scandic’s existing hotel portfolio to Hilton brands.
The companies will also announce new benefits for members of the Hilton Honors and Scandic Friends loyalty programs in the coming months. This initiative aims to make it easier for Hilton Honors members to explore Northern Europe and for Scandic Friends members to explore various destinations around the world.
The first concrete step in this partnership was taken in Copenhagen. Scandic has signed an agreement for a new Hilton Hotels & Resorts property in the Scanport area, adjacent to Copenhagen Airport. The 284-room hotel, which will be operated by Scandic under a franchise agreement with Hilton, is expected to open in 2029.
Located near Scandinavia’s largest aviation hub, the hotel will feature a restaurant and bar, meeting and event spaces, wellness facilities, a fitness center, and an executive lounge with views of the Öresund Strait. Construction is scheduled to begin once the remaining conditions are met.
The partnership between Hilton and Scandic dates back more than 20 years. There are currently three Hilton Hotels & Resorts properties operating in Helsinki: the Hilton Helsinki Airport, the Hilton Helsinki Strand, and the Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa. A phased renovation program is planned for the Hilton Helsinki Airport to modernize the common areas available to guests and further enhance the overall stay experience.
Chris Nassetta, Hilton’s Chairman and CEO, said the following about the agreement: “This strategic agreement marks a significant milestone for Hilton in Northern Europe. It establishes a concrete roadmap for the growth of our leading brands in four key markets. Reflecting our long-term goals for the region, this agreement—through our partnership with Scandic—opens the door to significant new opportunities for Hilton, our hotel owners, and our guests.”
Jens Mathiesen, President and CEO of Scandic Hotels Group, added: “This agreement is strongly aligned with Scandic’s long-term growth strategy. Our many years of successfully operating Hilton hotels in Helsinki under the franchise model have demonstrated the value of combining Scandic’s strong operational infrastructure with a global brand. Together with Hilton, we see significant opportunities to expand our operations across Northern Europe.”
