The Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis) has released travel price data for the first half of 2026.

According to data from the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis), international airfare prices rose by 8.5 percent compared to the same period last year, while prices for domestic flights in Germany increased by 9.5 percent.

For example, flights to Central America have become 12.5% more expensive, while those to other European countries have risen by 11.5%. Fares to Asia and Australia rose by 4.9%, to North America by 3.7%, and to South America by a modest 0.3%. Africa was an exception: Flights there became 12% cheaper on average.

Package vacations have also become more expensive

Germans are having to dig deeper into their pockets not just for airline tickets, but for their entire vacations as well. However, the increases were more moderate: According to the Federal Statistical Office, overseas package tours cost an average of 3 percent more in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year. For domestic travel within Germany, the increase was 2.8 percent.

Price increases varied among popular vacation destinations. The largest increase was seen in package tours to Egypt at 5.2 percent, followed by the Canary Islands at 4.6 percent and the Balearic Islands at 3.6 percent. The price increase in Turkey was less pronounced at 1.3 percent, while prices for vacations in Greece remained virtually unchanged at 0.2 percent.
