The Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (RMI) reported that the country experienced its hottest summer on record.
In a statement from the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (RMI), it was noted that temperatures remained below seasonal norms until June 16, but rose rapidly after that date. The statement noted that this was the first time since records began in 1833 that the average summer temperature had been measured above 20 degrees Celsius, confirming that this was the hottest summer on record; the previous record was set in 2018 at 19.9 degrees.
The statement emphasized that three distinct heat waves affected Belgium throughout the summer, noting that the first wave, which occurred between June 17 and 28, was the “longest and most severe” heat wave.
