Monique Barbut, France’s Minister of Ecological Transition, announced that the country had experienced its hottest summer since weather records began in 1900.

Monique Barbut, France’s Minister of Ecological Transition, made a statement in the city of Saint-Mande regarding the extreme heat and wildfires that have affected the country this summer. Barbut said that France has experienced its hottest summer on record since weather records began in 1900, noting that this summer will go down in history.

Barbut noted that classes had been suspended at some schools due to the heat this summer and also addressed the wildfires. Reporting that some homes had been destroyed and many people had lost their lives due to the heat, Barbut said, “France needs solutions in every aspect of life and in the economy to adapt to climate change. We won’t be able to renovate all schools by next summer, but we will install shutters and fans.”
