The German travel industry now needs tangible relief

At the CDU’s economic dialogue in Postock on “The Future of Tourism in Germany and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania” with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, DRV President Albin Loidl highlighted the economic importance of the travel industry and emphasized that this should also be reflected in political priorities.

During a panel discussion with business and industry representatives at the Aida offices on Monday, Loidl addressed the Chancellor, noting that the travel industry creates jobs, strengthens regions—not only in Germany—and brings people together, and that, above all, outbound tourism is a key pillar for German tour operators and travel agencies. In the new National Tourism Strategy, the federal government has explicitly emphasized outbound tourism—a move that is expressly to be welcomed. From Loidl’s perspective, the conversation and discussion with Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz demonstrated:

Loidl made the German travel industry’s message to the federal government clear in his remarks: Vacations must remain affordable for people, and the industry needs tangible relief.

In his remarks, Loidls made clear the German travel industry’s message to the federal government: Vacations must remain affordable for people, and the industry needs tangible relief.

From the DRV’s perspective, this includes, above all:

· Relief for citizens so that travel and vacations remain affordable even as the cost of living rises.

· Tax relief for consumers and businesses.

· Consistent reduction of red tape so that businesses have more time again for their customers and their operations.

· A reduction in the air travel tax to make Germany a more competitive hub for air travel and to reduce unnecessary costs for travelers.

· Relief regarding the German Travel Security Fund so that the protection of package tours remains reliable without placing an undue burden on companies.
