Executive order banning birth tourism in the U.S. signed

Executive order banning birth tourism in the U.S. signed

U.S. President Donald Trump signed two separate executive orders addressing the application of birthright citizenship and birth tourism aimed at obtaining U.S. citizenship.

In his statement regarding the two executive orders, Trump said, “The U.S. Supreme Court made a very unfortunate decision regarding birthright citizenship. That is why we are making some adjustments, because the decision is extremely unfair.” Arguing that the birthright citizenship policy took effect in the U.S. immediately after the Civil War and was originally intended for the children of slaves, Trump said, “But now the wealthy have turned birthright citizenship into a business model. It doesn’t have to work this way. It’s an absolute disgrace. They’re using their money to buy their way into this country, and we won’t allow it.”

Responding to a reporter’s question about how the executive order banning birth tourism would be enforced, Trump said, “We’re launching a massive operation. There will be major raids and strict inspections. This executive order will give us the authority to do this very forcefully.”
