A red alert has been issued in 27 cities in Italy due to extreme heat.
According to a bulletin issued by the Italian Ministry of Health, two more cities have been added to the third-level “red alert” system currently in effect in 25 cities. The Ministry of Health explained that the red alert, defined as “third level,” means that prolonged extreme heat poses a health risk to the entire population.
Authorities warned citizens to avoid direct sunlight between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and to drink at least 1.5 liters of water per day, as temperatures in some regions of Italy have approached 40 degrees in recent days.
