Following the release of Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster film The Odyssey, easyJet holidays reveals holidaymakers are swapping cinema seats for Mediterranean shores as ‘set-jetting’ drives travel to key filming locations.

With Christopher Nolan’s cinematic spectacle The Odyssey capturing the world’s imagination on the big screen, new booking and search data from easyJet holidays reveals that standard summer breaks are taking a backseat to full-blown epic odysseys.

Inspired by the legendary journey of Odysseus, sun-seekers look to swap the cinema seat for a deck chair on the shores of the Mediterranean, hopping on the ‘set-jetting’ trend in their droves.

From Screen to Shore

Data from easyJet holidays reveals a steep spike in travel inspiration following the movie’s release, with overall bookings to the Greek mainland and island breaks surging by 18% week-on-week as travellers look to trace the mythical footsteps of classic legends.

Key filming locations and gateways featured in the epic are experiencing a major cultural moment:

The Greek Islands: Classic Mediterranean favourites have seen a massive spike in interest, led by Corfu with a 28% week-on-week increase in package bookings (and a 9% increase in searches). Other Ionian and classic Greek destinations are following suit, with searches up 8% in Kefalonia and 7% in Zante.

Peloponnese Peninsula (Mainland Greece): Searches for gateways like Kalamata are up by 12% week on week as travellers seek out ancient ruins, dramatic coastlines, and pristine beaches.

The Aeolian & Egadi Islands (Italy): Bookings to Sicilian hubs (with searches up 10% for Catania and 9% for Palermo), serving as the main gateway to these mythical island archipelagos, have seen week-on-week bookings soar by 8%.

Fran Taylor, Head of Product and Content at easyJet holidays, said: "We know that pop culture and cinema play a huge role in inspiring where we choose to travel. With set-jetting continuing to trend, it's clear that blockbuster releases like The Odyssey are prompting Brits to seek out their own Mediterranean adventures this summer. Whether travellers want to lounge like a deity at a luxury beachfront luxury resort or explore ancient myths and historical sites, easyJet holidays makes Mediterranean travel seamless and affordable. We’re delighted to offer brilliant package breaks across Greece and Italy to help holidaymakers turn cinematic inspiration into reality."
