A historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the United Kingdom and Greece, one that closely concerns the millions of tourists who travel between the two countries each year. The tourism ministers of the two nations, who met in London, established a major five-year partnership that will take tourism and investment relations to a whole new level.
Aimed at further supporting the rapidly growing travel numbers in the wake of the pandemic, this step has gone down in history as the first cooperation agreement signed between the two countries in the field of tourism.
Details of the historic tourism agreement:
· According to statistics, while approximately 5 million British tourists choose Greece for their vacations each year, the number of tourists traveling from Greece to the United Kingdom is also steadily increasing year after year.
· The agreement, which will remain in effect for five years, will focus on eight key areas: tourism promotion, sustainability, investment, digitalization, innovative travel technologies, and vocational training.
· Under the agreement, joint projects will be developed in areas such as film, culture, luxury shopping, gastronomy, and wine tourism, as well as alternative routes like rural and mountain hiking.
· Sustainable green tourism practices aimed at minimizing the environmental impact of tourists will be shared between the two countries.
Commenting on the matter, UK Tourism Minister Stephanie Peacock stated, “This agreement will strengthen our cooperation and support sustainable growth in both of our tourism sectors,” while Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni added, “This is a strategic partnership that goes beyond promotion. It is an investment in the future of both our tourism sectors and creates new opportunities for travelers.”
